Abstract

Poverty is being tackled worldwide with a plethora of approaches. In Islamic realm, zakat, waqf and sadaqah among others are generally being utilized to minimize the intensity of poverty. While there may be limitation of nisab and haul for potential zakat payers, lack of awareness and accessibility to appropriate platform remain hindrance to waqf and sadaqah respectively. Since sadaqah has no strict conditions, it then poised as a viable option to harness donations from numerous philanthropists of varying categories. This paper seeks to explore a crowd funding-sadaqah model (CSM) in which charity is paid through the internet means to create a pool of fund for waqf. With respect to Nigeria, this idea is to compliment the extant means through which poverty is being addressed. It is an exploratory design which is largely library based. With this, it is hoped that cash waqf will be established to enhance socio-economic growth for the poor.
